In the United States we design cables according to AISI Steel Cable Manual. Generally “The effective design breaking strength of the cable shall be equal to or greater than the largest value produced by the following cable tension conditions:
a. 2.2 T1
b. 1.6 T1 + 2.7 T2
c. 2.2 T3
d. 2.0 T4
e. 2.0 T5
f. 2.0 T6
Where:
T1 = Net tension in cable due to dead load and pre-stress
T2 = Change in cable tension due to the application of live load
T3 = Net tension in cable due to dead load, pre-stress and live load
T4 = Net tension in cable due to dead load, pre-stress, live load and wind or earthquake
T5 = Net tension in cable during erection of the structure
T6 = Net tension in cable due to dead load, pre-stress and wind.
Most of the time the cable size is governed by combination c or f. This means Factor of Safety equals to 2.0 for wind and 2.2 for live.
Higher Factor is used when Safety is an overwhelming concern, such as 起重机的钢索、电梯用的钢索 and fittings.作者:
